The Dixie Derby Girls

While I am a recent recruit to the Dixie Derby Girls fans, it is quickly becoming a favorite way to spend an evening with some friends. I had seen mention of the DDG’s here and there, but the final straw was an invite to go to the VBCC last month and watch a game from a former coworker. He is a regular since his wife skates. I’m not going to spend a lot of time trying to fill you in on the rules, their website has the details. Since my thing is photography, I’ll stick to that. These shots were all taken at the August 27th games against the the Little City Roller Girls from Evansville, IN.

The evening was titled “The School of Hard Blocks” and I am sure many a lady went home with  plenty of bruises.

By the way, if you can’t tell from these shots, this is not my strongest form of photography. Action shots is a whole different best to setting up macro shots and it shows here. You can get a feel for what came right after the shutter clicked though. It is also worth mentioning here that this derby league is flat track, not those high speed inclined tracks you might remember from your youth. Don’t worry it is still fast and fun to watch.

They have fun, but do mean business.

There are a few derbies left in this season. The remaining home bouts are at Roller Time , check the schedule here.

That last shot might have been the best capture of the overall action, but nothing beats seeing it for yourself. Give them a watch one of these weekends, they work hard, are all volunteers and really enjoy what they do.

Project 365 – Day 25

This chess set was gift from my sister. I’ve always liked the style of the pieces and the board. I don’t play much, but once in a while Joani and I square off. We are evenly matched so it is usually a pretty good match.

Project 365 – Day 24

I took a shot similar to this with my diopter filters the first day I got them (the correct ones that is). This one is much better as that experience illustrated the need to clean things of dust as much as possible before zooming in. Then after you clean it , do it again. This is the side of a Razer gaming mouse, those numbers are buttons you can map to macros or they represent the number keys on the keyboard by default as well. I use them from time to time, but honestly my fingers are not nimble enough to make full use. I do however love the overall shape and feel of the mouse. Razer makes some great products and I would recommend them to anyone, gamer or not.

Project 365 – Day 23

Untold is a game a friend developed (with a couple of other locals). I got a chance to provide some art for a couple of the cards and some writing for their website. As can be implied from the start of this project I am a gamer and have been since way back in high school, so getting published in a game was a big kick for me. This picture sorta of melds all those hobbies into one. Gaming, 3D and photography.

Untold In Action

Untold rocked the shop. Big thanks to TBS Comics. Had a solid rpg demo and a couple of Battle demo runs.

Untold Unboxed

A starter pack and a few decks from the freshly unpacked first boxes of Untold.

Updated Render

Worked through figuring out how to UV Unwrap in Blender and gave the gun some more texture. This version has seen a hard time of it.

Untold Handgun Concept

I modeled this in Blender 3d based off a previous concept the guys had.  It is a weapon for Untold The Game. This is a signature weapon for one of the characters. I’m still learning blender but think I am getting better with it.

Hal – More Progress

full_hal_ambient_web

Finally finished the model I have been working on for class.  I’m not crazy about everything on him, but overall I am pretty pleased. There are details and changes that need made to get him closer to the original art for the character. The character was designed for Untold, a new card based RPG that is getting very close to hitting the streets. Excitement is building on that front, if you visit the site (and why the heck wouldn’t you) sign up for the newsletter. The most recent one had lots of info on the coming changes, sample art, and insights behind the scenes of what should be a HUGE hit.

The next step on the model will be giving him some textures, which i have started and am never, ever satisfied with the results. You may never see that on the blog :)

Mini Probe test render

Posting a quick progress render, no textures, just geometry for the mini probe I sketched a while back. Modeled and rendered in Blendermini_probe_test
