Well the xBox is off on it’s way to get fixed. Finally had to give them hell and demand a supervisor. They backed down right away and sent me a carton to ship it back.

Red Ring of Death

The following is my latest email to Microsoft concerning my xBox which has suffered the fateful Red Ring of Death. I attempted to send this on a form on their support site which below the field where you type the message has a counter reading 0/1000 characters and counts up as you type. As you can probably tell I am slightly frustrated by this time and so get up to around 800 of my allowed characters per the form. I hit subit before really going off all the way and get an error. The error states that you can only send messages with 500 characters using this form. So far their support site which on the surface seems quite nice has failed on ALL aspects of actually supporting the user. On top of this ever step of the phone support process mentions the web support site and how you should go use it. I would recommend them not doing that as my experience with the folks on the phone was quite nice and the web site made me want to tell Microsoft and my precious xBox to go fuck themselves.

I have already called requesting repair and have been approved on SR xxxxxxxxx. I am unable to print my labels because I get an error when I enter my sr# and zip code that states the zip code does not match. I have tried both the 5 and 9 digit zip code. I have a 2nd SR related to this xxxxxxxx and was told to wait 24 hours. This problem has been happening since Saturday when I got my initial email. I am also not seeing my console registered on my live id (email address) This is turning from what was an initially smooth support experience into a frustrating, disappoint experience very quickly. In addition to the 10 to 15 day turn around time I have once I am finally able to ship my dead console, the days are ticking by quickly adding to that total because I can not even print the required labels to ship the useless brick.

So all I’ve played of this game so far is the demo. It was beautiful, however I just have not finished enough of the games I already own for the xBox to pony up for another one right now. One thing that can not be denied is the artistry of the game. Not sure how long this will be available on their site, but you can download a PDF of the art book for the game here on their site.

You might think it is related to the economy. Nahh, that is gonna suck and suck hard. I really scratch my head about that through out the day and then move on. It is seriously screwed up, our government is giving it to us up the poop shoot, and short of staging an all out revolt there is not much we can do about it.

No my minor state of dread today revolves around just how many damn good games there are coming out and I really do not have the time to play them. Just a few on the near horizon. xBox360: Fable 2, Rock Band 2 (all ready out), Fallout 3, Dead Space, Lego Batman, maybe even Viva Pinata 2, and more I am trying not to pay attention to.

Thankfully I can try them out at least on Gamefly (eventually since the new titles are always in high demand) and make sure they pass muster.

Netflix Prognostication

Seeing the announcement from E3 finally making it official that xBox and Netflix were jumping in bed and we will finally get to view watch now movies on the ’360 was a good day. That it was going to happen free was also fairly expected but a relief as well.

So my prognostication for this came to me while reading a story on Zats Not Funny about blockbuster announcing their download service. So my predicition is that Netflix is going to offer a higher priced subscription service allowing access to premium content. The current offering is older movies and TV shows as part of most of their disk in the envelope subscriptions.

Ready for fall to get here one way or the other.

Dragon Age: Origins

Bioware just knows how to make games people like. I have not played one of their games that did not strike me as detailed and it always seems as tho everyone working on the game has invested themeselves in making the thing live. Mass Effect was amazing on the xBox 360, and this game looks to be an amazing evolution of what they learned in Baldurs Gate I & II. What follows is an interview from E3, try to ignore the chick asking the questions. This will be a PC only game apparently.

As is par for the course on my blog we have had another dry spell.

Updates on recent events. Settlers of Catan is out on Xbox Live, and it is fun. Still waiting for the time to go head to head with real people, but that should be fine barring the mid game drop out you may get. Would never get that in a face to face game, just considered socially unacceptable.

Tore a hunk off the side of my house and rebuilt it last weekend. Nothing more to say on that.

After beta impressions of Lord of the Rings Online. A damn fine game I wish I had the time to play. Could not hope for a more polished release. Turbine should be proud.

Work is Work, I have been given a token raise for being the 4th highest raited person on the desk. We have screaming monkies at work who scream to loud as they can be heard by callers.

Classes are paid for and will being soon.

Co-worker pointed out a site Meebo it is essentially a web based replacement for Trillian that works REALLY well. They have a gizmo for your site, I will try later here.

Yet another board game coming to xbox live !

Looks like Capcom is stepping up and bringing Talisman to the Xbox live marketplace sometime in the future. I can see this being two things. Potentially an awesome game to play on the Xbox, and a cash cow for capcom if it catches on. Talisman as you will see if you go to the link to the Wiki for it had several expansions that eventually made the game insanely complicated and loooooong. If done right however, Capcom will release these exapnsions every 6 to nine months as add-ons and rake in the bucks.

Hope it looks as good as Settlers of Catan is looking.. wish they would go ahead and turn that puppy loose.

I just might have to drive to Baltimore and kick my friend Paul’s ass. I go check BigHugeGames site from time to time to see what they are up to over there and behold hte tidbit I find today.

I might grant him some slack in that his wife just had a baby, so he may have been a tad distracted by that. When he lived back here though we played this game (and others) frequently, even travelling up to Nashville for a tournament together. Ahh well, teach me to lose touch.
