Sea Turtle Accident

I liked the way this shot turned out even though technically it sucks. Taking pictures at an aquarium is a crap shoot (often literally crappy shots). The lighting is wonky, the glass can play with you in weird ways and the animals are on their own schedule.  There was a lot of movement going on here and it ended up turning out kind of ghostly. I decided it was a keeper.

Some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken are accidents. Occasionally someone will say “now how did you do that”? I get all of the settings from the camera metadata and spit it at them, and they say “ahhhh…” Then, I confess (usually): I pulled the trigger and it happened.

I have learned things from such serendipity, though, that I then apply deliberately to later shots.

Yeah if you can catch what you do to get a good shot, always nice to keep track of it for later use :) Looking forward to finally pulling the trigger on a decent DSLR soon so I’ll have that meta data to toss around soon also !
